Sewer Camera Inspection in Overland Park, KS
A sewer camera inspection runs a waterproof camera through your line so you can see roots, cracks, offsets, sags and buildup instead of guessing. It’s the right step after repeat backups, before a sewer repair, and before buying a home.

When a camera inspection makes sense
- Buying a home, especially an older one or one with mature trees near the line
- A main-line clog that keeps coming back
- Before committing to a sewer repair or replacement
- After a repair, to confirm the line is clear and properly graded
- Before major landscaping, a driveway replacement or an addition over the line
What the camera finds
- Roots entering at joints or cracks
- Offsets where pipe sections have shifted out of line
- Bellies (sags) that hold water and collect waste
- Cracks, breaks and collapses
- Grease and scale narrowing the pipe
- Material changes, such as old clay meeting newer PVC from a past repair
What you get
We access the line through a cleanout (or another access point), record the run, and locate any defects along the way. You get the footage and a plain-English summary of what we saw and what, if anything, needs attention.
If a heavy clog prevents the camera from passing, the line may need to be cleared first.

Pre-purchase sewer scopes
General home inspections often don’t include the sewer line. A scope before closing gives buyers facts to negotiate with and avoids surprises after move-in. Ask your agent about timing within your inspection window.
It matters here because the lateral is the owner’s problem. In the Johnson County Wastewater (JCW) service area, which includes Overland Park and Lenexa, the service lateral from your house to the public main is private property. The homeowner is responsible for maintaining, repairing and replacing it, including its connection point on the public main. JCW asks that you or your plumber call JCW at 913-715-8520 before a lateral is repaired or replaced.
Age is a reasonable screen. In Census data, 40.8% of homes in ZIP 66204 (north Overland Park) were built before 1960 and 57.3% of homes in 66212 date to 1960–1979, while most homes in 66221 and 66224 are from 2000 or later. A newer home can still have a construction defect or root intrusion, but an older lateral deserves a closer look.

Sewer Camera Inspection: common questions
Should I get a sewer scope before buying a house?
It’s a small cost relative to a sewer repair, and many general inspections don’t cover the line. It’s especially worth it for older homes and lots with mature trees.
What if there’s no cleanout?
We may be able to access the line through a toilet flange or roof vent, or recommend installing a cleanout, which also makes future maintenance easier.
Will 811 mark my sewer line?
Usually not. Kansas One-Call (811) locates public utilities; private sewer service lines belong to the homeowner. Olathe, for example, states that it does not locate sewer service lines.
How long does a camera inspection take?
It depends on access, the length of the line and whether it needs clearing first.
